Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) in Nova Scotia

When you graduate from a university or college in Nova Scotia, you will be eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). A PGWP is an open work permit that allows you to gain work experience in Canada after graduation.

Starting February 15, 2024, students who graduate from master’s degree programs of less than two years (8 months minimum) may be eligible for a 3-year PGWP. The length of your PGWP depends on the level and duration of your study program, as well as the expiry date of your passport, whichever comes first.

PGWP eligibility requires that you maintain full-time status throughout your studies and the length of your program to a maximum length of three years. Your Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) at your home institution will be able to provide you with instructions and advice on applying for the PGWP. Economic immigration programs in Canada have specific work experience requirements. Your post-graduation work experience will impact which pathways to permanent residency you are eligible to apply under.
